What to look ahead to

Between today's patch release and Cryptic's latest Technological innovation Review, STO guarantees some quality upgrades on the horizon. Lovers of the encounter now have a solid concept of what to anticipate through September, from minor UI upgrades to large chunks of content.

STO has its detractors, no doubt, and I haven't been shy about airing my own concerns every now and then. This summer provides Mysterious with the perfect opportunity to add swaths of new content and to quiet some of the naysayers. And with a certain Nameless Behemoth's next growth predicted sometime in the drop, the next few several weeks could prove critical to STO's upcoming. So let's see what Craig Zinkievich and organization have in store for us.

1. Crafting Improvements

Oh. Thank. Goodness. I am so glad designing has lastly seen some significant changes. This very morning, Mysterious released an upgrade to Season 1.1, one of the primary functions of which was the designing overhaul. They didn't fundamentally change the techniques, but the UI upgrades alone elevate Memory Alpha from the teeth-grindingly obtuse mess it was before. I won't go into the upgrades too much -- Shameless Plug Alert: See next week's Captain's Log for a basic information to STO designing -- but suffice to say I am very pleased.

2. Starship Interiors

According to last week's Technological innovation Review, STO will function playable starship decorations come September. Mysterious have been throwing this concept around for several weeks, and frankly, I didn't really think it would occur. At least not this soon. I imagined deliver decorations would turn out to be a fantasy (a Jefferies tube dream?): something the players would so really like to see and the designers would so really like to implement ... eventually. Maybe. At some factor.

But if Cryptic's timeline holds, deliver decorations will be available a lot sooner than that. Specifically, the Technological innovation Review promises:

Curved Federation deliver hallways
Smaller Federation entrances (non-combat versions)
Player deliver interiors
From the sound of it, STO will consist of both mission-ready and strollable vanity decorations. I have no concept whether decorations will be customizable, but we've got a while to delay for more details. Klingons are maybe getting the shaft on this function, too, unless they just don't believe in entrances. But the inclusion of starship decorations is a fairly enormous win all the same.

3. Diplomacy

Y'know how in most episodes of Celebrity Travel (pick a series, any series), Federation officers don't invest nearly every waking minute blowing stuff up? And y'know how in STO, they do? The mission's dearth of diplomatic opportunities has distressed diehard fans since day one. But Mysterious will provide some relief in September with the planned release of the Federation Diplomatic Corps. Again, details are forthcoming, but it sure sounds promising, doesn't it?
